Physicians Laboratory Services (PLS) was founded in Omaha, NE in 1955. The founders of PLS, were C.A. McWhorter MD, H.W. McFadden, Jr. MD, M.H. Kulesh MD, and Milton Simons MD. These pathologists were on faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In the 1960’s, the laboratory owners separated the laboratory from their pathology roles at the Medical Center. Since that time, PLS has been owned and directed by our pathology directors and has maintained financial independence from other national laboratories or healthcare systems.
In October of 1988, PLS moved to its present location in Omaha at 4840 “F” Street. The laboratory comprises 28,000 square feet of space and sits on 4 acres of land conveniently located just south of I-80. In 1989, our company was awarded an exclusive contract from HMO Nebraska. In order to serve the Lincoln clients, PLS opened a laboratory located at 7441 “O” Street, Suite 100. In 1991, PLS purchased the laboratory at Lincoln Clinic and the combined staffs have been the foundation for the continued success of local laboratory service in the Lincoln area. In 2002, PLS was selected as the laboratory to provide pathology consultation and local laboratory testing for the family practice residents at Lincoln Medical Education Partnership. Today, our company has grown to over 200 employees and is the oldest and largest regional reference laboratory in the Midwest. PLS performs over 1,000,000 tests per year. We provide a courier service logging over 5000 miles per day. |
